I just received the latest rankings from MediaMetrix of the most popular real estate websites and Rentals.com has risen from #9 last month to #8. Sort of. I’m not exactly sure why, but MediaMetrix groups Rentals.com together with other websites owned by our parent company such as ApartmentGuide.com and then gives us one ranking. They also do this with Realtor.com and Move.com which of course solidly puts them at #1 on the list. If Realtor.com didn’t have the help of Move then they would have some strong competition from Yahoo Real Estate for the top spot. As it is though, they have a lock on #1 and we’re at #8 which sure is fun to say!
Last month, we were ranked 9th and just barely edged out Zillow which was ranked 10th. This month, Zillow climbed ahead of us to 7th and since we both went up in the rankings I was curious as to who fell. And it appears to be AOL Real Estate. For some reason, AOL Real Estate fell all the way from #5 to #16 on the list…if anyone has any insight as to how they could have fallen so much I’d love to hear it.
Without the help of ApartmentGuide.com, Rentals.com would still be the #1 site for single-family rentals and other non-apartment rentals. Other notables in the single-family rental market include:
RentalHouses.com ranked #37
RentalHomesPlus ranked #79
HomeRentals.net ranked #112
HotPads ranked #121
RentVine ranked #166
RentSpeed ranked #216

Bill,
Thanks for providing that number for me, I can’t afford the $45K a year to get those numbers.
Thanks for including me in the list, you guys are definitely number one in our niche but I am working as hard as I can to change that.
Can you provide any other sites numbers such as House.info or ThatRentalSite.com?

ThatRentalSite is ranked #57 and House.info is ranked #97.

Wow, ThatRentalSite.com is doing really well and beating RHP!
If you don’t mind sharing can you do a post like this each month?

I’ll think about it, maybe every quarter. In our niche, the sort order really doesn’t change very much and rankings like this is such an inexact science that I try not to put a lot of stock in these reports. The traffic numbers these groups report are very often way off. If I see a significant move by someone then I’ll mention it on here though. And if I am desperate for a topic I’ll come back to this well!
